About the Role Responsible for managing closing, forecasting and budgetary processes for assigned areas of the balance sheet. Accounting oversight of various balance sheet areas such as worker's compensation reserve, payroll & related taxes, various employee benefit and other accruals, prepaids, bank reconciliations, etc. Supervising at least one Financial Analyst and one Junior Accountant, providing financial and accounting guidance to various departments and assisting the Senior Director of Corporate Accounting with special projects and GAAP research of accounting issues. This position will play a key role in identifying areas of opportunity and efficiency as we modernize our global accounting operations. This role will collaborate closely with FP&A, Regional finance teams, Treasury, IT, Payroll, Benefits, third-party service providers, and the shared service center, to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting. What You'll Do Manage the month end close, forecasting and budgeting processes for assigned areas of the balance sheet. Timely and accurate review of actual results for completeness, accuracy and proper accounting treatment and classification. Compilation and review of monthly balance sheet deliverables, including identifying and providing explanations of significant variances between actual and forecasted/budgeted balances. Review and oversight of quarterly account reconciliations and deliverables to financial reporting and the external auditors. Challenge forecast and budget assumptions and activity for reasonableness, including amount and timing. Provide guidance to analysts. Timely identification, communication and tracking of risks and opportunities. Responsible for the accounting of various employee benefit and other accruals, including: Coordination with internal and third parties to obtain information to support accruals. Documentation of significant assumptions. Review of annual schedules supporting the Company's 10-K. Responsible for the Company's North America payroll accounting, including: Timely identification and resolution of interface errors Coordination with ADP, third party payroll processor, as needed Provide information to Tax Department in support of the Company's tax provision, tax returns, and tax audits. Assist the Senior Director of Corporate Accounting with special projects and GAAP research on accounting issues. Evaluate processes for efficiencies and improvements. Train and develop associates. Evaluate staff performance. Shared Service Center Establishment and Oversight Document standard operating procedures for the shared service center to follow in relation to the migration of any transactional processes. Collaborate with the shared service center to transition and manage transactional responsibilities such as preparing account reconciliations. Provide training and oversight to ensure process compliance and efficiency. Leadership & Stakeholder Management Lead, mentor, and develop a staff of 2 accounting professionals. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Prepare and/or review support for internal and external audit requests. Ensure SOX compliance for account related controls. What You'll Bring Experience: 6+ years progressive experience in accounting in a multi-national corporation. Retail or multi-location industry experience. Experience in a supervisory role. Experience with project management or system implementation. Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, Master's preferred CPA preferred Skills: Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX regulations, and global finance operating models.
