Job Description
Location: Chicago,Illinois Expected Start Date: Feb 16, 2026 Salary: $140,000 - $185,000 Swoon is actively seeking a Middleware Engineering Manager to join the team! What your day-to-day look like? Lead the implementation, configuration, and ongoing support of middleware and messaging platforms across production, development, and test environments. Manage and mentor a technical team responsible for application integration, system design, and third-party middleware solutions. Oversee automation and CI/CD initiatives using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible to improve deployment efficiency and system reliability. Monitor, tune, and optimize middleware performance while ensuring high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery readiness. Direct the resolution of complex configuration and production issues, providing escalation support and ensuring minimal service disruption. Establish security standards, documentation, and best practices while advising leadership on emerging technologies and platform improvements. What's Required? Proven ability to think critically, work independently, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively under pressure in fast-paced environments. Strong leadership presence with demonstrated confidence, decision-making ability, and experience managing technical teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business stakeholders. Hands-on expertise in systems administration, change management, J2EE services, and message-oriented middleware technologies. Advanced technical proficiency in cloud-native platforms, microservices, CI/CD tools, scripting, networking, and secure file transfer protocols (SFTP). In-depth knowledge of security and encryption technologies (SSL/TLS, PKI) and software security controls, supported by 7+ years of relevant experience.
