Role at a glance Manual machining of LARGE PARTS for industrial pumps in a custom job shop. Components include impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals produced to exact specifications. Translate mechanical drawings/blueprints/sketches into machining steps and setups. Perform precision cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting using VTLs, manual lathes, horizontal/vertical boring mills, and ID/OD grinders. Measure and document critical dimensions using inspection equipment; ensure adherence to tolerances. Optimize machining procedures and maintain machines and tooling for reliability. Adhere to Hydro shop safety policies and collaborate with engineers and peers to resolve challenges. Must-haves 5+ years post-training as a manual machinist working on LARGE PARTS in an industrial environment. Technical/vocational machining program completed (Journeyman preferred); high school diploma or equivalent. Shop math and geometry proficiency (angles, radii, bolt circles, complex dimensions). Knowledge of feed rates and the impact of adjustments on quality and efficiency. Hands-on experience setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps. Capability to machine pump shafts 3–10 ft long with a steady rest and hold 0.0005 in. or tighter. Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, coordination, and control precision. Schedule and workplace Job Type: Full-time; 40 hours per week. Schedule: 8-hour shift, Monday–Friday; overtime available. Supplemental Pay: Differential pay; Night Shift preferred.
