Job Description
About the Opportunity Our client is a growing precision manufacturer in Northeast Ohio, serving industries where tight tolerances and on-time delivery are non-negotiable. The company is in a growth phase and investing in the people, systems, and infrastructure needed to scale. About the Position The Production Planner & Expeditor keeps jobs moving. This role sits at the center of shop floor execution: releasing work, tracking job status, resolving material gaps, and expediting orders to protect on-time delivery. You will work daily with Operations, Production Supervisors, Purchasing, Engineering, and Customer Support. The work is hands-on, detail-heavy, and system-dependent. This position reports to the Master Planner. Responsibilities: Planning & Job Release Release jobs from the Production Planning Workbench; maintain 4–6+ weeks of available work on the floor Manage the open sales order backlog daily; update operation and job status in ERP Make planning decisions, combining jobs, adjusting quantities, sequencing, based on material availability and demand Coordinate job priorities with the Master Planner and Production Supervisors Expediting & Schedule Adherence Actively track WIP; identify jobs at risk before they miss dates Expedite critical jobs through operations to protect customer commitments Communicate job status, delays, and risks to supervisors and leadership proactively Attend daily production meetings; provide accurate, concise updates Data & System Accuracy Maintain clean, current job data in ERP; no stale records Transfer and organize scheduling data from ERP into Excel/Word as needed Review supplier and part records for gaps; update as needed Cross-Functional Coordination Flag material availability issues to Purchasing; escalate supplier reliability risks that affect the schedule Coordinate with Engineering and Quality on job holds or deviations that impact sequencing Support Customer Support with accurate job status and realistic ship date visibility Continuous Improvement Identify recurring planning or scheduling breakdowns; surface them with a recommendation Support broader operational improvement initiatives as assigned What Success Looks Like Schedule health: 4–6+ weeks of jobs released and ready to run at all times Reduced past-due: Declining volume of orders with late start or ship dates Accurate WIP: ERP reflects real-time job status daily No surprises: The Master Planner, supervisors, and leadership always know where jobs stand Who You Are You track dozens of open jobs at once and nothing falls through the cracks, not because you have a perfect system, but because you're wired that way When priorities shift mid-day, you adjust without losing your footing You're equally comfortable pushing a job to a machinist on the floor and escalating a risk to leadership, and you don't wait to be asked to do either You'd rather dig into the ERP system for an hour to get the data right than work from a report you don't trust You want to understand why a job is late, not just that it is, and you go find out What You Bring Experience in a job shop, precision machining, or high-mix manufacturing environment required (distribution, warehouse, or high-volume production is not a fit for this role) Hands-on ERP experience in a manufacturing setting (required); experience with scheduling workbenches, job management, MRP, and WIP tracking — not just order entry Comfortable managing a large number of active jobs simultaneously with constantly shifting priorities Strong Excel skills, you build and maintain your own tracking tools, not just read reports others create Direct, clear communicator — able to speak with machinists on the floor and escalate to leadership without waiting to be asked
