Job Description
Marine Technician – Part Time / Full Time / Seasonal St. James, NY | Long Island We’re a family-run marine service operation on Long Island looking for a skilled and motivated Marine Technician to join our team. If you love working on boats and want a flexible schedule that fits your life, this could be a great fit. This is a part-time / seasonal position with hours ramping up during peak boating season (April–November), up to 30 hours per week. Work is task-based and day-to-day scheduling is flexible — no rigid 9-to-5. Every December through mid-January, we shut down for the holidays, giving you 3 full weeks off to recharge. On top of that, we close for all major holidays. Diagnosing and repairing inboard and outboard engines, performing routine maintenance, winterization and spring commissioning, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and handling general marine service work as needed. Some service calls require traveling to boats at off-site locations, so you’ll need to be comfortable getting out on the road when duty calls. Mercury Certification is preferred, but if you’re experienced and looking to get certified, we’re happy to support that process. Experience with Mercury, Yamaha, and Evinrude/E-TEC engines is a plus. A valid driver’s license is required, as technicians may need to travel to marinas or waterside locations for on-site service calls. You should be comfortable working independently, communicating with customers, and managing your time on varied day-to-day tasks. $30–$45/hour, negotiated upon offer, based on experience and certifications. Flexible scheduling during the season, with the understanding that spring and summer will be the busiest stretch. Three weeks off guaranteed every winter season along with all major holidays. We’re not a big box marina. We’re a small, tight-knit operation that values good work and good people. You’ll have real flexibility, consistent work, and the chance to work on a wide range of boats and engines without the corporate overhead. Pay: $25.00 - $45.00 per hour Benefits Flexible schedule Work Location: In person
