Department Corporate Services Position Type Non-Exempt Employment Status Part-Time Salary $20.00 / Per Hour Open Date 11/12/2025 Close Date Open Until Filled No Position Summary Information Job Description Summary The Del Mar College’s Maritime Personal Survival Techniques Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring safety during scheduled course hours. Personal Survival Techniques classes are held throughout the year, typically in the morning from 8:00am – 12:00pm, at the Del Mar College swimming pool. The Lifeguard is expected to be reliable, punctual, and friendly to all faculty, staff, and members of the community. Minimum Qualifications 18 years of age. Current Lifeguard certification (Submission of certification required). Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid certification (Submission of certification required). Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of CPR/AED and emergency medical procedures. Skilled in the application of life-guarding surveillance and rescue techniques. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to assist the course instructor with required equipment set up and tear down. Basic knowledge in the maritime equipment/lifesaving appliances being used during the class. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including co-workers, community groups, and the general public. Ability to work well with both staff and students of all ages. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of Lifeguard experience preferred. Beach/ocean lifeguarding preferred but not necessary. Job Duties Job Duty Enforces all aquatic facility policy, rules and regulations. Job Duty Recognizes and responds effectively to emergencies in/around swimming pool.
