JOB SUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Marketing & Tourism Coordinator is a key member of the Marketing and Communications Team. This position leads efforts related to tourism promotion, community events, and downtown engagement for the City of Navasota. The role focuses on enhancing the visitor experience, supporting local businesses, and promoting Navasota as a destination.This position also provides support to broader City marketing and communication initiatives as needed and maintains participation in the First Street Program through the Texas Historical Commission to support downtown preservation and revitalization efforts. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS1. Reports to: Marketing and Communications Director2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.3. Other: Has frequent contact with department heads, City employees, local, state, and federal agencies, downtown merchants, the Chamber of Commerce, and the general public. Works closely with Economic Development, Marketing & Communications, and other City departments as well as regional tourism and community partners.EXAMPLES OF WORKPrimary Responsibilities: Tourism & Community Events• Plan, coordinate, and promote City of Navasota community events and festivals that enhance quality of life and attract visitors, including Sounds of Navasota Concert Series, Navasota Freedom Festival, Navasota Blues Festival, and Home for the Holidays. Develop and implement tourism initiatives that position Navasota as a regional destination. Collaborate with downtown businesses, merchants, and partner organizations to increase event participation and visitor engagement. Maintain and promote the City’s Visitors Center, including visitor materials and tourism resources. Coordinate partnerships with local, regional, and state organizations to increase tourism visibility and visitation. Enhance the visitor experience through promotions, wayfinding, and destination development efforts. Maintain involvement in the First Street Program and apply best practices in downtown preservation and revitalization. Serve as a liaison to downtown stakeholders to support economic vitality through tourism and events. Identify and support sponsorship and partnership opportunities for events and tourism initiatives. Maintain current and accurate information on the City of Navasota and Visit Navasota websites, including businesses, attractions, and events.Supporting Responsibilities: Marketing & Communications• Prepare agenda briefings, resolutions, proclamations, ordinances, reports, and other official documents related to tourism initiatives as needed. Assist with promotion of events and tourism initiatives through social media, website updates, and marketing materials. Provide content, photos, and updates to support Citywide marketing and communication efforts. Support branding consistency across tourism and event-related materials. Assist with media coordination and promotional outreach for major events as needed. Assist with departmental budget preparation and ensure financial accountability, record keeping, and internal controls. Provide support to the Marketing and Communications Director with resident communication and outreach initiatives as needed. Build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, local businesses, and partner organizations. Represent the City at community events, meetings, and regional tourism initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by the Marketing and Communications Director and/or City Management.
