Job Description
Summary This position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS) as part of the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) in Chillicothe, OH.This job is open to The public U.S.Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.Duties The Materials Handler performs a wide variety of duties in the laundry facility.These duties include but are not limited to the handling and distribution of the Medical Center's linens, patient clothing and employee uniforms.Receives, stores, issues, and sorts a wide variety of medical linens for all facilities; Receives, identifies, validates, loads exchange carts and delivery carts with correct par levels of clean linen items; Prepares linen carts for distribution to various end users, using existing Par Tracker to ensure proper stock levels; Performs inventory of linen by counting quantities of items remaining on wards and clinics linen racks and adjusts daily linen order to replenish par level.Follows established standard operating procedures to wipe down carts prior to re-delivery.Performs various duties in the Uniform Distribution room including issuing and receiving uniforms to hospital staff, inventory, stocking and records keeping.Moves linen supplies via hand cart, dolly, or motor vehicle delivering or picking up to or from wards, clinics, or the laundry.Ensures that records are maintained of linen sent to and returned from laundry, enters data into Linen Management database.Performs other duties as it relates to the position.Work Schedule:Monday to Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm and some holidays due to operational necessity and at the discretion of the supervisor.Recruitment & Relocation Incentives:Not authorized.Critical Skills Incentive (CSI):Not approved Requirements Conditions of employment You must be a U.S.Citizen to apply for this job Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Pre-employment physical required Subject to background/security investigation Must have a valid motor vehicle license Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider:your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.Qualifications DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT:This position requires a current, valid driver's license.Do not upload a copy of your driver's license at this time.If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted Driver's License.PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS:Heavy physical effort is required in daily handling of carts loaded with items weighing from 300 to 450 pounds or more.These carts are loaded from a dock into the truck for delivery.At the delivery point, they are pushed or pulled onto a power lift tailgate, lowered to the ground, then pushed or pulled into buildings.The same physical effort is required to move items weighing 425 pounds or more from the building to the truck.The Materials Handler must be able to maneuver push carts in and out of small areas, such as linen rooms.She/He must be able to stoop, bend, push and lift.He/she must be able to load bags of soiled linen weighing 125 pounds into push carts.The Materials Handler is required to work outside and inside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles.She/he may drive in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.The handler is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents involving the loading and unloading of vehicles.Transportation of soiled linen and wet linen makes task disagreeable at times.Required to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.For this position, the job element method is u
