Job Title:Billing/Coding Specialist Department:My Kidney Center Reports To:Administrator/Medical Director FLSA Status:Non-Exempt Employment Status:Full-time or part-time Summary of Duties:The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for managing patient account payments, including collecting, posting, and submitting claims to insurance companies.This role also involves following up on claims and resolving any billing issues.Essential Functions:1.Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies, either electronically or by paper.2.Conduct insurance verification for prior authorizations and update insurance information.3.Answer questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.4.Identify and resolve patient billing complaints.5.Prepare, review, and send patient statements.6.Evaluate patients' financial status and establish budget payment plans.Follow up on delinquent accounts and report their status.7.Prepare information for the collection agency.8.Perform various collection actions, including contacting patients by phone and correcting and resubmitting claims to third-party payers.9.Process payments from insurance companies and prepare daily deposits.10.Participate in educational activities and attend monthly staff meetings.11.Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.Education:High School Diploma or GED and CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification.Billing/coding experience is required.Compensation will be determined based on experience.Skills/Experience:1.Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices.2.Proficiency in computer programs.3.Understanding of business office procedures.4.Basic knowledge of medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.5.Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.6.Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.7.Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.8.Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.9.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.10.Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.Environmental/Working Conditions:Normal office environment.Occasional overtime may be required, and hours may be adjusted as business needs dictate.Physical Demands:This role requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.Manual dexterity is needed for using a calculator and computer keyboard.The employee must regularly talk or hear, frequently use hands or fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls, and occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Note:This job description does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee(s) in this position.Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and perform any other job-related duties requested by authorized personnel.All duties and responsibilities are essential functions and requirements and are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.To perform this job successfully, incumbents must possess the skills, aptitudes, and abilities to perform each duty proficiently.Some requirements may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health or safety of themselves or others.This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an at-will relationship._____________________________________________________________________________________ Job Type:Full-time Benefits:Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Work Location:In person.
