Responsibilities Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically or via paper to various payers, ensuring compliance with all billing regulations. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies and resubmit claims as necessary. Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to billing procedures. Maintain detailed records of billing activities within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for audit purposes. Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies and clarify medical records or coding issues. Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure ongoing compliance. Skills Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to coding practices. Proficiency in ICD coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10), CPT coding, DRG classifications, and medical billing software. Experience with EMR/EHR systems for documentation, billing, and record management. Excellent understanding of medical records management and healthcare compliance standards. Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and perform effective medical collections. Attention to detail with high accuracy in data entry and coding processes. Strong communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
