Responsibilities Review and interpret medical records to accurately assign DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for billing purposes. Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems, ensuring compliance with payer requirements. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, including resubmission or appeals. Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to service delivery to facilitate smooth billing processes. Maintain detailed documentation of medical records, billing transactions, and correspondence related to claims and collections. Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure accurate entry of medical terminology and records into billing systems. Stay current with updates in medical coding standards, including ICD coding changes, to ensure compliance and maximize reimbursement. Requirements Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical coding principles including DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards. Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems used for managing medical records and billing workflows. Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare policies, and insurance procedures related to medical collections. Prior experience in a medical office setting is highly preferred to understand clinical workflows and documentation practices. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical records accurately. Strong communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers.
