Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Coder and Biller/Accounts Receivable (AR) Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical coding, billing processes, and accounts receivable management. This role involves accurately translating medical documentation into standardized codes, ensuring precise billing, and effectively managing the collection process to optimize revenue flow. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and coding standards. Responsibilities Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate diagnosis codes using ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems. Apply procedural codes such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) to accurately document services provided. Ensure compliance with DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications for hospital billing processes. Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims utilizing EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems. Follow up on unpaid claims, communicate with insurance companies, and perform collections to resolve outstanding balances. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payment histories, and correspondence related to accounts receivable. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding accuracy for optimal reimbursement. Stay current with updates in medical coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance. Requirements Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle management within a healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, DRG classifications, and medical terminology. Familiarity with medical office procedures, medical records management, and insurance claim submission processes. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and billing purposes. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and patients. Knowledge of medical collection practices and accounts receivable management strategies. Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is preferred but not mandatory; relevant experience is essential.
