Ohana Pet Hospital of Agoura Hills is seeking a Medical Director to provide visionary medical leadership within our veterinary health department. As a key clinical and strategic leader, the Medical Director will guide the delivery of high-quality medical, surgical, dental, and wellness care for companion animals while championing the hospital’s culture of teamwork, compassion, and dedication to pets and their families. In this role, you will set and uphold the standard of care for the hospital, overseeing veterinarians and veterinary technicians as they manage a wide range of small animal cases in general practice. You will provide direct clinical support for complex medical, surgical, and dental cases, offering consultation and second opinions, and modeling best practices in diagnosis, treatment planning, pain management, and client communication. A core responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain medical protocols that promote consistent, evidence-based care across wellness, internal medicine, surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, and preventive medicine. The Medical Director will work closely with the practice management team to align medical decisions with hospital goals, supporting efficient workflows, excellent patient outcomes, and a positive client experience. You will lead quality assurance initiatives, monitor clinical metrics, and drive continuous improvement in areas such as patient safety, infection control, anesthesia standards, and medical record accuracy. As a leader, you will mentor and develop associate veterinarians and veterinary support staff, providing ongoing coaching, constructive feedback, and opportunities for professional growth. You will help shape the learning environment by encouraging case discussions, clinical rounds, and skills development in areas such as diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, and emergency stabilization. The Medical Director will also ensure regulatory compliance, including proper handling of controlled substances, adherence to state veterinary practice laws, and maintenance of thorough, legally sound medical records. The ideal candidate is a licensed veterinarian with strong clinical skills, proven leadership experience, and a genuine passion for teaching and collaboration. You should be comfortable communicating directly with clients about complex cases, guiding families through treatment options, and resolving concerns with empathy and clarity.
