Job Description
Polymer Concepts Technologies PBY, Inc. KRS Division dba Kaydon Ring & Seal (“KRS”) is responsible for Aerospace and Industrial applications. KRS has a customer portfolio that includes all major players in the Aerospace and Industrial industries. Our business is fully customer focused, with products specifically designed for an engine/airframe application and then produced in small quantities and small lots on highly flexible equipment. Extreme product range fragmentation, complex product design, very high-quality standards and traceability requirements are the peculiarity of KRS. Job Summary This position is responsible for efficient and accurate operation of materials testing laboratory and is responsible for ensuring incoming materials conform to purchase specifications and may be required to issue certifications on outgoing shipments to various customer standard requirements. Essential Job Functions Operates a variety of mechanical, physical, chemical, and metallographic test equipment. Maintains necessary records, inventory of supplies, schedules and performs preventive maintenance. Maintains and operates a variety of heat-treating ovens and furnaces including atmosphere. Confirms that incoming piston ring and seal materials conform to specifications. Prepares certifications for materials shipped from the piston ring and seal plants, when required. Investigates and writes reports on materials and process deviations.Assists with outsourcing projects. Supports production with technical assistance. Support customer audits for materials laboratory functions and special processes. Investigates new materials; evaluates customer proposals; writes specifications and computer programs. Analyzes returned materials, prepares and distributes a report and initiates follow up on appropriate corrective action. Critically reviews customer drawings and specifications as they relate to the materials for both new and repeat orders. Studies and evaluates new material selections for their potentiality and practicality. Interfaces with and provides application assistance to customers, distributors and field sales personnel by telephone and in person. Works closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Engineering personnel in preparation and finalization of uniform specifications for materials and/or equipment. Maintains materials lab files. Participate as an internal auditor to support 3rd Party Special Process Heat Treat and Pyrometry Audits Gathers, correlates, analyzes basic testing data, specifications, may recommend testing involving simpler applications. Performs special projects as directed. Additional Duties Complete other duties assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications BS Materials Science or Metallurgy and minimum of one-year relevant experience Knowledge of general metallurgical concepts including phase diagrams, metallographic analysis, hardness testing and how physical properties of metals are affected by changes in heat history. Must be a U.S. Person due to ITAR Compliance. Preferred Qualifications NADCAP knowledge. Aerospace experience.
