We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level Database Administrator to join our team in the Washington, D.C. area. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in both MySQL and PostgreSQL database environments, AWS cloud infrastructure, and modern DevSecOps practices. This role blends traditional DBA responsibilities with active development, CI/CD pipeline integration, and a security-first mindset. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing production-grade database systems while collaborating closely with software engineering and DevOps teams. General Experience 6+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator and/or Database Developer Proven track record designing, developing, and managing relational database systems in production environments Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional engineering teams Demonstrated ability to balance database administration duties with active code development responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design, develop, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL database schemas, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers Manage and optimize AWS RDS instances - monitoring performance, applying patches, managing backups, and ensuring high availability Own and maintain Liquibase changelogs and execute controlled database migrations across Dev, QA, Staging, and Production environments Integrate database deployment workflows into CI/CD pipelines ensuring automated, repeatable, and auditable releases Enforce DevSecOps best practices - implement database security controls, conduct periodic access reviews, and support compliance audits Collaborate with software developers to review ORM models, optimize slow queries, and support application database requirements Monitor database health using AWS CloudWatch and custom alerting; respond to and resolve incidents
