ABOUT THE SCHOOLThe Christa McAuliffe Charter School (mcauliffecharter.org) is an EL Education (eleducation.org) school for 340 scholars in grades 6-8 with a hands-on curriculum that inspires achievement through active learning, character growth, and teamwork. The school is committed to ensuring that all students grow as learners and as ethical people through meaningful work and a strong community.STEAM PROGRAM AND POSITION OVERVIEWMcAuliffe is excited to launch an innovative new STEAM program beginning in the 202627 school year. Designed as a five-day-a-week course, this program offers students an alternative to World Language study and provides a rigorous, engaging experience across grades 68.Through challenging hands-on learning, students will build skills in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics while developing the critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration needed to solve real-world problems. The program complements our existing foundational technology coursetaken by all students for six weeks each yearby offering a deeper and more continuous exploration of STEAM disciplines. We anticipate that this program will attract both academically advanced students with a passion for STEAM and students with skill gaps who are interested in hands-on learning.Over time, the program will grow to include a range of experiences such as design and engineering challenges, coding, applied mathematics, digital arts and media, environmental science, and robotics. While the full scope will evolve in the coming years, the programs direction will be shaped both by student needs and by the expertise, passions, and vision of its teacher.McAuliffe seeks a dynamic and innovative STEAM educator to design and lead this program. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about STEAM and energized by the creative challenge of building a program from the ground upone that will inspire curiosity, empower students, and become a cornerstone of the middle school experience.RESPONSIBILITIES In consultation with the Director of Teaching and Learning, develop the units and lessons for the STEAM program Teach 4 sections of STEAM classes, using best practices of student-centered instruction Keep up to date on best practices in STEAM instruction Provide differentiated support, including accommodations and modifications to ensure all students are given access to curriculum and instruction Participate in ongoing professional development, including observations and feedback from an instructional coach Implement school-wide positive behavioral systems to effectively manage the classroom Continually communicate with students' families regarding performance and progress Maintain the STEAM lab and all equipment Serve as a Crew advisor to approximately 12 students, which includes leading a daily advisory, called Crew, supporting advisees, and regularly communicating with parents/guardians Serve as an active member of the McAuliffe Community, including attending evening celebrations of student learning QUALIFICATIONS- Content Expertise and Vision: deep understanding of STEAM and the ability to build a program from the ground up. Experience: Experience in, and passion for, teaching in the STEAM fields, preferably at the middle school level. Technical Skill: Expertise with the iterative design process and a variety of assessment methods. Curriculum: Commitment to developing curriculum and implementing EL Education core practices. Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and readiness to reflect and grow. Licensure: Massachusetts DESE licensure in a STEAM fieldPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENTMust be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.Must be able to move about the classroom and school building to assist students.Must be able to lift/move instructional materials up to 25 lbs occasionally.Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents in person and digitally.COMPENSATION & BENEFITSSalary Range: In the spirit of pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $41,952 (step 0, Bachelor's) $84,016 (step 20, Master's). If you are hired at Christa McAuliffe, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or applicable experience.
