Job Description
Excellent opportunity with the County Mosquito Abatement Division Long-term seasonal position lasting up to 5 months Tuesday- Friday, starting at 5:30 am Flexible scheduling, work 8-10 hour shifts $17.50 per hour starting wage Paid training and licensing provided Dispatch location based out of Meridian, ID Gain experience working in public health DUTIES: Collect and identify mosquitoes to help keep residents safe from mosquito-borne diseases Use GPS and other field technology for sample collection and navigate to collection sites Retrieve samples from traps for lab identification Prepare mosquitoes for disease testing Identify mosquito species accurately Operate surveillance and sampling equipment Maintain and care for equipment Learn mosquito life stages and breeding habitats Assist in special projects as assigned Support collection, monitoring, and distribution of biological control agents Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) according to safety guidelines Perform other related duties as assigned LAB: Sort and count mosquitoes collected from field traps Identify basic mosquito types using a microscope Prepare samples for testing, including labeling, organizing, and grouping Enter data into spreadsheets or tracking systems Handle biological samples while following all safety procedures Keep accurate records of collections and lab findings Clean and organize lab equipment and work areas Assist lab staff with routine tasks and setup REQUIREMENTS: Valid driver's license with a good driving record Must be drug-free Pass a background check Knowledge of basic mathematics Ability to safely operate county equipment Ability to read, understand, and follow chemical labels, SDS sheets, and written work orders Ability to use computers, mobile field devices, and GPS technology Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a team Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Willingness to work in a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug testing Pay:From $17.50 per hour Benefits: Dental insurance Flexible schedule Health insurance Professional development assistance Vision insurance Work Location:In person.
