Salary $27.86 Hourly Location City of Las Vegas, NV Job Type Full-Time Job Number 26FEB3078-O Department Public Works Department Opening Date 02/12/2026 Closing Date 2/26/2026 11:59 PM Pacific Bargaining Unit LVCEA Max Number of Applicants 100 About the Position NOTICE OF LIMITED APPLICATIONS This posting is limited to the first 100 applications received.When that number is reached the posting will be automatically removed.The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/ or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.FOR CONSIDERATION, CANDIDATES MUST ATTACH A COPY OF THEIR CURRENT CLASS B (OR HIGHER) COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE WITH TANKER ENDORSEMENTS.Career Opportunity The city of Las Vegas invites applicants for Motor Sweeper Operator.The Motor Sweeper Operator ensures that streets and alleys are clean from debris and removable hazards and maintains equipment in proper operating condition.Supervision Received Receives general supervision from higher-level staff.The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/ or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.Examination Process A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas.The supplemental questions are the examination.Falsification of information may result in disqualification from recruitment or removal from a city position.Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date.The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list and must be worked on individually by the applicant only.The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list.Eligible List You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.Selection Process Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include a hiring interview (if applicable).Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.Some positions may require preliminary background checks.Essential Functions:Operates a motor sweeper in a variety of traffic and weather conditions in assigned area.Maintains, cleans and removes debris from business districts, alleys and residential streets; removes hazardous materials from the roadways or calls for assistance to remove hazardous materials.Operates and secures assigned vehicles and other assigned equipment; performs and documents pre-trip inspection; maintains vehicles and equipment in clean and fueled condition.Cleans and performs preventive maintenance on construction and maintenance equipment.Fills sweeper water tank from a fire hydrant regularly.Periodically checks all gauges of both engines for proper readings.Dumps sweeper at various dump stops.Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed.Maintains a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files.Marginal Functions:Provides street sweeping for special events.Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience:Two years of increasingly responsible equipment operations experience.Training:Equivalent to graduation from high school.Licenses and Certifications:Possession of an appropriate, valid Class B commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.Special Requirements:May be required to respond to emergencies such as storms or sewer overflow.Knowledge of:Operation and maintenance of LP gas, diesel and gasoline powered motor sweeper and various types of heavy equipment.Traffic laws.Methods and operations of cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment.Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.City geography.Skills in:Operating two-way radio and headset.Maintaining log sheets.Recognizing hazardous situations.Cleaning and maintaining equipment in proper operating condition.Working independently in the absence of supervision.Understanding and following oral and written instructions.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Competencies:Core Workforce Competencies Professionalism - Demonstrates core values by being honest, respectful and positive.Effective Communication - Expresses verbal and written thought in a clear and understandable manner.Customer Focus - Demonstrates genuine concern and satisfies external an
