Job Description
Occupational Therapist: On-Site Support (Behavior, Mental Wellness & Instructional Support) Position Overview The Montgomery County Educational Service Center is seeking a passionate and adaptive Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our On-Site Support (OSS) Team. This specialized role is designed for an OT who thrives in a collaborative environment and is dedicated to supporting the behavioral, regulatory, and instructional access needs of students (with and without disabilities), while also providing meaningful support for staff and families. By leveraging OT-specific expertise in sensory processing, environmental analysis, and classroom design, this role works directly with schools to design, implement, and sustain Tier 1, 2, and 3 supports. These supports address a full continuum of student needs, including mental wellness, behavioral challenges, and complex learning profiles, by strengthening instructional environments and reducing barriers to engagement and participation. This role includes supporting a range of educational settings, including general education classrooms as well as more specialized environments serving students with intensive needs (e.g., specific learning disabilities, autism, emotional/behavioral needs, and low incidence disabilities). The focus is not only on individual students, but on building sustainable classroom systems that improve outcomes for all learners. This position is ideal for a licensed professional who is skilled at managing multiple projects, enjoys contributing to a multidisciplinary team, and is committed to applying neuroscience-informed practices across both preventative and intensive levels of support. Key Responsibilities Include Instructional & Classroom Design: Partnering with educators to design and adapt classroom environments, routines, and instructional practices that improve access, engagement, and regulation for a wide range of learners, including students with complex needs. Behavioral & Regulatory Supports: Delivering therapeutic and consultative supports that address self-regulation, behavior, and engagement, including collaboration with teams to develop and implement individualized plans for students with more intensive needs. Mental Wellness Integration: Supporting school teams in implementing strategies that promote resilience, emotional regulation, and overall student well-being across Tier 1 and Tier 2 systems. Sensory Processing & Environment: Developing activities that enhance sensory processing and conducting environmental analyses to identify and remove barriers to participation, particularly in classrooms serving students with autism, multiple disabilities, and other complex profiles. MTSS & PBIS Leadership: Strengthening Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports by helping teams identify patterns, triggers, and effective strategies that align with both behavioral and mental wellness frameworks. Staff Coaching & Capacity Building: Providing professional development and job-embedded coaching to school staff on classroom systems, instructional supports, behavior, and adult regulation, ensuring sustainable implementation across settings. Project & Team Contribution: Actively managing multiple school-based initiatives while collaborating with the OSS team to deliver coordinated, wraparound supports for students, staff, and families. Inclusive Advocacy: Serving as a liaison between schools and community resources while advocating for inclusive practices and equitable access for all students across educational environments. Qualifications Licensure: Valid OTPTAT Board and Ohio State Board of Education Pupil Services licenses as an Occupational Therapist (required). Core Skills: Expertise in sensory integration, environmental and classroom supports, and school-based behavioral and regulatory strategies that improve access to instruction. Professional Attributes: Ability to work across a continuum of student needs - from universal supports to intensive interventions - while managing multiple priorities with flexibility, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills. Communication: Ability to translate clinical knowledge into clear, actionable strategies that align with instructional goals for educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
