The moderator is the on-camera presence who guides the session from inside the circle.You read the prompts, manage the transitions between rounds, and facilitate debate.You are not a host in the traditional sense--you are a referee.Your job is to create the conditions for authentic, high-stakes conversation without taking sides or becoming the center of attention.On-Set Responsibilities Read each debate prompt clearly and with authority, setting the tone for each round.Manage the physical movement:instruct participants when to step forward or back, and ensure the process is clear and orderly.Open the floor for debate after each movement, choosing who speaks first when multiple people want in.Keep debates productive and on-topic without suppressing genuine conflict or emotional honesty.Redirect when conversations become circular, and know when to let a tense exchange play out.Transition smoothly between rounds, maintaining energy and momentum across a long shoot day.Coordinate with the director (via earpiece or visual cues) on pacing and when to move on.Ideal Moderator Candidate On-camera presence:composed, authoritative, and warm without being the center of attention.Experience moderating live discussions, panels, or debate formats (formal or digital).Ability to manage strong personalities with opposing views in a high-energy environment.Quick on your feet--you can read a room, sense when a moment is building, and know when to intervene or step back.Comfortable with provocative topics about money, class, and success without showing personal bias.Bonus:familiarity with Jubilee, Intelligence Squared, VICE, or similar formats.HOW TO APPLY 1 Your resume or CV.2 A link to your reel or relevant work samples (directing reel for Director; on-camera moderation or hosting clips for Moderator).3 A short written statement (200 words max) answering this question:Two participants become visibly angry at each other on set.One starts making personal attacks.What do you do?
