Shettle Family Eye Care & Eye Wear – Dr. Scott Shettle and Dr. Logan Shettle Employment Opportunities for Opticians and Optical Technician Come join our amazing team of eyecare professionals at our beautiful office located in St. Petersburg, Florida. We are a family owned-private practice. Dr. Scott Shettle has been practicing Optometry for over 30 years in St. Petersburg. We are searching for a professional and enthusiastic full-time Optician for our growing practice as Dr. Logan Shettle has joined our practice in May of 2025. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma Optician: Florida Licensed Optician – Preferred – not mandatory 1-2 years’ experience working in an optical dispensary Extensive knowledge of frame and lens selection Extensive knowledge of frame adjustments and repairs Basic medical, Optometric and Ophthalmic terminology Ability to learn or have experience entering charges and payments into a practice management system Strong understanding of vision plans, insurance and spectacle reimbursement Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA) ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment Team oriented Computer literacy with basic understanding EHR Database RESPONSIBILITIES: Fitting and dispensing eyeglasses Dispensing contact lenses Placing orders for eyeglasses and contact lenses both verbally and electronically Retrieving authorizations for vision plans and submitting claims electronically Prescription verification upon arrival Speak with patients on the phone, schedule patient exams and appointments, check patients out, and post charges Assist patients in the selection of eyewear. Measure, fit, adjust, and repair eyewear. Takes pride in store appearance, shows initiative to keep store clean, attractive & organized. Demonstrates safe work practices. Secures & protects company assets in your control. Using specialized equipment such as edger, calipers, lensometers, and lens gauges. Educating customers on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses. Performing administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance. Additional duties may be assigned as needed (i.e. customer calls, appointment scheduling, dispensing eyewear, etc.) Optical Technician: Job Description: Ensuring our patients have the best experience is a priority. An Optometric Assistant is directly responsible for providing patient care while performing necessary pre-screening exams/testing. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented with an ability to multi-task. IMPORTANT: Must be able to work Saturdays. Essential Skills and Abilities: Strong computer, communication and interpersonal skills. Personable, enthusiastic, and empathetic with patient’s needs and concerns. Well-organized and attentive to detail. Able to work as a team member. Demonstrate computer literacy - Ongoing Training will be provided Duties: Checking in patients, pretesting patients, taking visual acuity, performing visual field testing, contact lens fitting, verifying insurance, reviewing benefits with the patient, front desk duties, answering phones, optical sales, taking measurements, taking payments, optical repairs, e-mail patient communication, office maintenance, and optical problem-solving Job Type: Full-time Pay: $19.00 - $31.00 per hour Benefits Bereavement leave Employee discount Paid time off Ability to Commute: Saint Petersburg, FL 33702 (Required) Work Location: In person
