Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and organized Optometry Receptionist to join our healthcare team! Responsibilities Greet patients warmly and professionally, providing excellent customer service at all times. Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth. Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and process billing and collections accurately using medical billing software. Collect and review patient documentation, including medical history forms, consent forms, and prior records. Handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism, answering inquiries promptly and directing calls appropriately. Maintain accurate medical records by filing documents correctly in electronic or paper files while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support clinical staff by preparing patient charts, updating care plans, and assisting with administrative support tasks like data entry and document review. Assist with insurance verification procedures, CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and documentation review to ensure precise billing processes. Manage appointment scheduling efficiently to optimize clinic flow and reduce patient wait times. Uphold confidentiality standards by adhering to HIPAA guidelines during all interactions involving patient information. Experience Prior experience working as a medical receptionist or in a healthcare office environment is highly preferred. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth is essential; experience with dental office management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix is a plus. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and Medicare billing procedures. Demonstrated ability to handle medical administrative support tasks including insurance verification, documentation review, and medical billing. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and data entry accuracy (10 key typing). Bilingual skills are desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively. Exceptional phone etiquette along with clerical experience in front desk operations or office management is necessary. Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced clinic setting while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
