Join the premier wilderness lodge and outfitter in northern Minnesota and live, work, and play in the Minnesota Northwoods, just steps away from the legendary Boundary Waters in the heart of the Superior National Forest.Gunflint Lodge is located 45 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, Minnesota, our nearest town.We are surrounded by over 1 million acres of wilderness in the Superior National Forest.Guests come from all over the world to relax, fish, swim, canoe, and explore in the Northwoods atmosphere.About Us Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters is a legendary Northwoods wilderness resort located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.For 100 years we have served guests seeking outstanding dining, wilderness adventures, weddings, retreats, and seasonal events.About the Role Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters is seeking an Outfitting Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our Boundary Waters canoe outfitting business at Gunflint Lodge.This hands-on leadership role is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience from first contact through trip completion, managing the outfitting team, and ensuring all equipment, provisions, and accommodations are maintained to the highest standards.The ideal candidate is an organized, energetic leader with a deep knowledge of canoe camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.Key Responsibilities Guest Services & Trip Planning Answer guest inquiries about BWCA trips, including routes, permits, equipment, and logistics Reserve trips and secure BWCA entry permits on behalf of guests Route and plan camping trips based on guest experience, group size, and seasonal conditions Provision food packs and assemble gear for each trip, ensuring completeness and quality Provide thorough trip orientations covering safety, Leave No Trace principles, and wilderness travel techniques Operations & Equipment Management Transport guests to and from BWCA entry points by truck, van, and motorboat Maintain canoes, paddles, portage packs, camping gear, and all outfitting inventory in good working condition Oversee cleanliness and upkeep of outfitting accommodations, bunkhouses, and grounds Manage gear inventory, coordinate repairs, and recommend replacements or new purchases as needed Ensure all vehicles and watercraft are properly maintained and meet safety requirements Team Leadership & Scheduling Supervise, schedule, and organize the daily workload of the outfitting crew Train new team members on outfitting procedures, guest service standards, safety protocols, and equipment handling Motivate the team and lead by example, fostering a positive and productive work environment Communicate effectively with management regarding operational needs, staffing, and guest feedback Assist work crews directly during peak periods and whenever additional support is needed Qualifications Required Must be 21 years of age or older Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Prior experience in canoe outfitting, outdoor recreation operations, or a related field Demonstrated leadership ability with experience supervising or managing a team Strong organizational skills with extreme attention to detail Cheerful, guest-focused attitude and excellent communication skills Ability to take direction from management while working independently Physically able to lift heavy loads (canoes, gear packs), work outdoors in variable weather, and perform manual labor throughout the season Comfortable operating trucks, vans, trailers, and motorboats Preferred Extensive personal familiarity with canoe camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Knowledge of BWCA entry points, portage routes, campsites, and seasonal conditions Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and/or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification Previous experience working at a BWCA outfitter or wilderness lodge Experience towing and launching watercraft What We Offer Year-round leadership role at a historic Northwoods resort Competitive pay based on experience Discounted onsite housing available Paid time off Discounts on lodging, dining, retail, and activities 401(k) retirement plan with company contribution Resort perks and access to outdoor amenities A dynamic, hands-on role with variety across seasons Opportunity to help shape guest experiences and programming Work Environment This is an active, on-site role that includes weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal periods.The Outfitting Supervisor should expect a mix of office coordination, guest interaction, and time in the field.How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief note explaining why you'd be a great fit for the Outfitting Supervisor role at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters or apply online at gunflint.com/employment.Job Type:Full-time Pay:$20.00 - $22.00 per hour Benefits:401(k) 401(k) ma
