Job Summary The Women of Color (WOC) Writers seeks an Intern who is interested in the World of writing, uplifting women writers, and learning to set up and run various writing and performance activities. As a Paid Intern at Women of Color Writers, you will gain invaluable experience in setting up workshops, screening applicants, editing, researching, and content creation while supporting our mission to elevate diverse narratives. This paid internship offers unique exposure and learning opportunities to develop your skills in a vibrant, collaborative environment committed to social justice, literary excellence, and more. You will contribute to editorial projects, assist with workshop set-ups, social media, and content development, and help ensure our communications are given opportunities to excel in their writing lives aligned with our values. THE INTERNSHIP IS 5 TO 6 MONTHS with Advancement possibilities. Duties Assist with varied workshops, including the Guest Poet Series, local and virtual Right to Read Performances, Writing Workshops, and more. Reviewing short pieces of writing, editing, and other written materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to style guidelines such as AP Style and the Chicago Manual of Style Monitor the Women of Color (WOC) Writers FB and other pages and its website Conduct research on relevant topics to inform content development Work closely with the WOC Program director and writers to facilitate literary activities Allowed to contribute creative ideas for storytelling projects, blog posts, newsletters, and social media content Help prepare materials for publication by formatting documents using word processing tools and maintaining organized files Participate in team meetings to discuss editorial strategies and project timelines Willingness to learn and contribute to the project Requirements Understand the importance of Women Writers in the Literary world Strong writing skills with an eye for detail Creative writing passion Willingness to learn and contribute to the project Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members Detail-oriented, with great writing skills Experience with word processing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs Interest in social justice issues related to women of color and diverse storytelling This paid internship is designed to nurture your development through exposure to the world of writing and publishing, as well as to the roles of writer and editor, while making meaningful contributions to our community.
