Job Description
The Boyd Group, operating collision repair centers across North America under the Gerber Collision & Glass brand, is seeking a dedicated Paint Prepper to join our Automotive team. In this role, you will play a critical part in our refinishing process by preparing vehicles for high-quality paint work in a fast-paced collision repair environment. You will work closely with painters, body technicians, and production leaders to ensure every vehicle is cleaned, sanded, masked, and staged to company standards before entering the paint booth. As a Paint Prepper, you will be responsible for thoroughly washing and degreasing vehicles, sanding and feather edging repaired areas, and scuffing adjacent panels for proper paint adhesion. You will carefully mask and tape trim, glass, moldings, and other components to protect them from overspray, and assist with primer preparation and minor body filler finishing as needed. Attention to detail is essential, as you will inspect surfaces for pinholes, scratches, or other imperfections and correct or report them before paint is applied. Working within The Boyd Group’s culture of teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement, you will follow written repair orders and established standard operating procedures to keep work flowing efficiently through the shop. You will safely move vehicles in and out of prep and paint areas, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and adhere to all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements. This position offers the opportunity to grow your skills alongside experienced automotive refinishing professionals, using modern tools, equipment, and materials to deliver the level of craftsmanship our customers expect. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience or vocational training in automotive refinishing, detailing, or collision repair and is comfortable using sanders, hand tools, and masking materials. Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. At The Boyd Group, you will have the chance to build a long-term career in the automotive industry while contributing directly to the quality and appearance of every vehicle we repair.
