Job Description
Wiggs Law Firm is a complex commercial litigation practice in Lakeland, Florida representing clients in business, real estate, construction, and employment disputes. We are seeking an experienced litigation paralegal to take ownership of substantive case work and work directly with the firm's attorney on active matters. This is not a document-shuffling role. The right candidate will manage cases with real autonomy, contribute meaningfully to case strategy, and become an essential part of a small, high-functioning team. About the Role You will manage your own caseload of active commercial litigation matters in Florida state court, primarily in Polk County and elsewhere in the Tenth Judicial Circuit (Highlands and Hardee Counties), with regular matters in Hillsborough County and other surrounding jurisdictions. Federal court matters in the Middle District of Florida are anticipated as the firm's caseload grows. You will work alongside the firm's existing paralegal who manages their own cases. The firm operates as a tight-knit team: case ownership is real, but workloads ebb and flow, and we support each other when matters heat up. Your work will include: Drafting and managing discovery: requests for production, interrogatories, requests for admission, responses, deficiency letters, and meet-and-confer correspondence Preparing for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials, including exhibit organization, witness preparation materials, and demonstratives Managing case calendars, deadlines, and procedural compliance under the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure Drafting routine motions, notices, subpoenas, and procedural correspondence for attorney review Coordinating with opposing counsel, court personnel, court reporters, and process servers Maintaining case files in MyCase and supporting the firm's document production and e-discovery workflows Conducting fact investigation, public records research, and witness location work as needed What We're Looking For Minimum 5 years of litigation paralegal experience; candidates with 7+ years are strongly encouraged to apply Substantial experience in Florida state court civil litigation Demonstrated ability to manage a litigation docket with limited supervision Strong working knowledge of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure and the Florida e-filing portal Federal court experience, including familiarity with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and PACER, is a strong plus as the firm anticipates expanding into federal litigation Excellent written communication and attention to detail Comfort with legal technology, including case management software and document review platforms Professional discretion and the judgment to handle sensitive client matters appropriately Paralegal certificate, FRP designation, or equivalent demonstrated experience What We Offer Competitive salary in the range of $58,000 to $70,000, depending on experience Discretionary year-end performance bonus Paid time off and paid holidays Professional development support A genuine seat at the table on substantive matters A small, collegial team with no firm politics Modern technology and case management infrastructure How to Apply Apply directly through Indeed with the following: Resume Brief cover letter describing your litigation experience and what draws you to a small-firm role Three professional references We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis and aim to begin interviews as soon as practicable.
