Job Summary and Qualifications The ED Paramedic provides high quality, patient-centered care within a defined scope of practice, according to certifications, state and local regulations, and facility policy. As a vital member of the healthcare team, the ED Paramedic gathers pertinent patient data, monitors vital signs, administers specified treatments and medications within the scope of practice, and ensures patient and personal safety in a hazard-free environment. The ED Paramedic delivers compassionate, holistic care, supporting the rights and dignity of all patients and promoting the vision/mission/values of the organization. What you will do in this role: Serves as a member of the healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. Assists in facilitating the flow of patients through the emergency care system. Maintains clear communication with medical providers and nurses assigned to patient about all patient care issues. Receives patient report from EMS by radio and/or receives EMS hand-off reports at facility. Participates in patient placement as needed. Obtains and documents initial vital signs and monitors vital signs as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Performs testing, specimen retrieval, therapeutic procedures, monitoring, or other functions, as ordered by the medical provider(s), within the defined scope of practice per state regulation. Documents the administration of care promptly and thoroughly in the patient medical record. Administers prescribed medications, within the defined scope of practice per state regulation. Monitors patient for therapeutic response. Notifies provider and intervenes as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication. Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention. Transports monitored and non-monitored patients to inpatient units and diagnostic areas. Inspects patient environment and eliminates any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards. Implements fall precautions as needed. Responds promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively. Responds appropriately to emergency or crisis or situations. Involves and educates the patient/family/caregiver(s) in the patient’s care. Stocks, checks, and cleans equipment such as stretchers, closets, and cabinets, as appropriate. Maintains good working relationship with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff. Participates as an engaged, active member of the healthcare team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
