Job Description
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesEducation, Curriculum and Classroom ResponsibilitiesAssists in implementing curriculum activities and lesson plans. Follows schedule for the classroom including outdoor time, meals, snacks and special activities.Uses positive guidance techniques and soothes children consistent with state licensing regulations. Uses a confident, firm tone of voice in handling behavioral problems, not a shrill or angry voice. Never uses food or rest as a punishment.Keeps accurate and current records of each childs developmental milestones, student accidents, anecdotal notes, and attendance.Under the direction of the teacher, helps to establish developmentally appropriate room arrangement, dcor, and learning environment in the classroom, consistent with the programs philosophy and goals.Provides daily communication to parents including meals, diaper changes, nap times, activities and the childs overall mood via Child Pilot and in person.Helps ensure that a current list of activities is posted for parents.Assists in maintaining and decorating center bulletin boards and windows, walls and doors under the direction of the director, assistant director or other members of the leadership team.Has working knowledge of Texas Minimum Standards as they pertain to center operations.Interactions with OthersWelcomes families, volunteers and others into the classroom by creating a friendlyenvironment and facilitating their participation. Demonstrates tact, courtesy, tolerance and consideration for others. Interactions with individuals reflect mutual trust, respect and support.Shares information appropriately with other staff members; keeps classroom staff informed but doesnt violate confidentiality with those who have no need to know.Treats each child with dignity and respect. Respects the privacy of children by not discussing children or their families in front of other children. Includes children in conversation with parents when the child is present and being discussed.Maintains appropriate primary caregiver groups (ratio) as outlined by Minimum Standards.Observes, records, and reports to director any needed repairs to the building, play area, equipment or toys throughout the facility.Ensures that children are not exposed to equipment or situations that could affect their health and safety.Observes, records and reports to the director any situation that affects the health and safety of childrenAccepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled staff is not available, such as taking full responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the lead teacher; including writing, submitting, and implementing a lesson plan. May also answer phones, assist the cook, clean, and organize or file as needs of the program dictate.Health and SafetyImplements appropriate emergency procedures in the event of fire, tornado, chemical leak, or other emergency situation.Administers CPR/First aid or other appropriate emergency procedures in the event of serious student accidents or emergencies and correctly prepare an incident/illness report or behavior report for parent notification.Properly maintains educational materials and equipment, ensures that children are using equipment in an appropriate manner.Keeps classroom and other play areas safe, secure, neat and clean.May be responsible for cleaning various equipment and surfaces as directed by the director or assistant director.Must be alert and responsive to children at all times
