The City of Overland Park has a full-time Parks Construction Specialist I position available in the Parks and Recreation Department. SUMMARY Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks and recreation facilities and grounds. Assists with special events. RESPONSIBILITIES Skilled Tasks Perform a variety of construction tasks with precision and expertise, including carpentry, masonry, electrical work, and more. Safety: Enforce and promote strict adherence to safety protocols, conduct safety meetings, and address potential hazards on-site. Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery and specialized tools as needed, ensuring their proper maintenance. Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues that may arise during construction, such as design changes or unforeseen challenges. Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with the team, subcontractors, and project stakeholders. GENERAL: Maintains, inspects, repairs, lubricates and cleans equipment and tools per manufacturer specifications listed in equipment manuals. Follows proper storage, maintenance and use techniques according to City policies and procedures. Assists in emergency operations, including snow removal and storm damage call outs as required. CONSTRUCTION: Assists with or performs maintenance, repair and construction of park facilities to include: plumbing, irrigation repairs, electrical, patching asphalt and concrete, painting, welding, sign construction and repairing playground equipment. Operates and assists operators of various machines and equipment, such as loaders, excavators, tractors and attachments, dump trucks, trenchers and trailers.
