JOB The County of Prince George, Virginia is currently seeking certified applicants for the purpose of creating an on-call pool to be utilized to fill in during times of staff shortages. This position will cover various shifts as needed. Hourly Wage: BLS - $27.30 Intermediate- $28.66 Paramedic - $30.10 This position will be responsible for responding to emergency calls; providing basic or advanced life support; engaging in active fire suppression; preparing and maintaining detailed records. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES In depth knowledge of firefighting techniques, emergency medical procedures, and rescue operations; the ability to rapidly assess emergency situations and coordinate effectively with other emergency services is crucial, along with proficiency in operating a variety of fire suppression and medical equipment, including diagnosis, proper patient treatment and transport, automobile extraction and technical rescue operations; team work and collaboration, scene size up, problem solving and decision making abilities, basic and advanced fire control; thorough knowledge of the principles of building construction, fire behavior, technical proficiency in firefighting equipment, handling and control of hazardous material incidents, basic and advanced search and rescue techniques, anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems; thorough knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry and mechanics as applied to fire suppression; thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with associates and the general public; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; possession of mechanical aptitude; physical endurance and agility.
