Job Description
Food Service Technician As a Food Service Technician, you’ll play an important role in supporting the preparation, packaging, and serving of meals for older adults participating in JASA programs. Your work helps ensure participants receive nutritious meals in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment while maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. What You'll Be Doing As a Food Service Technician, your responsibilities will support meal service operations and maintain cleanliness and organization within the program site. Key duties include: Meal Preparation & Service Clean and prepare fresh food items for cooking and service. Package cooked meals and assist with meal preparation activities. Serve Congregate and/or Grab-and-Go meals to program participants. Ensure adherence to food handling and sanitation requirements. Food Storage & Inventory Receive, unpack, and properly store food deliveries and supplies. Refrigerate food items promptly upon delivery. Maintain cleanliness and organization of food storage areas. Assist with monitoring and managing food inventory. Cleaning & Site Support Clean kitchen, dining room, and bathroom areas as needed, particularly in the absence of maintenance staff. Operate kitchen utensils and equipment, including mechanical kitchen equipment such as meat slicers. Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Support volunteers and assist with related activities when needed. Program & Emergency Operations Support Participate in Cooling Center Hours, Make-Up Days, or other emergency operations as required by City funders. Perform additional related duties and assignments as requested. What You’ll Need High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English. Basic computer literacy and ability to learn program-specific software. Ability to lift heavy objects, climb stairs, and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to safely operate kitchen tools and equipment. Availability to work extended hours or weekends during emergency operations or special program needs. New hires must obtain a Food Handler’s License within the first six months of employment if not already certified.
