THE CITY OF REEDLEY INVITES YOU TO APPLY Application Instructions or Other Information The City of Reedley is recruiting for one (1) Part-Time Laborer position.This Part-Time Laborer encompasses a broad spectrum of functions and duties.The duties in the Public Works Department will be mainly, but not limited to, general landscape maintenance.Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.Work hours may fluctuate, but the typical work schedule will be 7:00 a.m.to 12:00 p.m.Monday through Friday.Incumbents in this position drive City owned vehicles and operate other motorized equipment andtherefore are required to have a valid California driver license and good driving record.This position is in the Public Works Department, Parks Division and works under the immediate supervision of the Roads and Grounds Supervisor or assigned designee.This position is subject to the terms and conditions of employment as specified in the City's Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual.Please review the job description below for employment requirements.Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply online to ensure that the application is complete at the time of submission.If you have held multiple positions with an employer, including the City of Reedley, please enter the information for each position separately.If you have previously applied for a position using governmentjobs.com/NeoGov, please make sure to update your profile to include all work and/or education experience that may have occurred after your profile was created.A resume may be attached, but is not a substitute for completing the application.Failure to submit a completed application with attachments (if required) will disqualify you from consideration for the position.Applicants must apply online at:https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/reedley The successful candidate will be required to undergo additional background clearance checks before the hiring process is complete.For more information about applying for this position, you may contact Human Resources at (559) 637-4200 ext.394.E.O.E Position Information DEFINITION Under supervision, performs a variety of building, equipment, grounds or manual maintenance work and operates light equipment.SUPERVISION Receives supervision from assigned Supervisor.May receive direction from lead worker.This class does not exercise supervision.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Laborer is a semiskilled working level maintenance class in which incumbents perform a variety of services on City facilities and property.Depending upon area of assignment, responsible for general custodial work, grounds keeping, general building maintenance and laborer work.Incumbents may be required to work with adult offenders and parolees.Incumbents may also be required to work weekends and holidays and may work independently or as a member of a work crew.EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES (may include, but are not limited to, the following) Participates in the repair of streets and gutters, including concrete maintenance and minor construction.Assists in the cleaning, flushing, and repair of sewers and related structures.Participates in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water production and distribution and wastewater collection and treatment systems.Assists in the assembly, installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control signs.Participates in the light fabrication and maintenance of bus stops, signs, shelters, and benches.Participates in street sweeping and cleaning operations.Assists in reconditioning and general maintenance of facilities, equipment, buildings, and grounds; opens rooms and sets up for the public.Assists in setting up and taking down displays, stages, and stage equipment.Assists in preparing refuse bins for repair; cleans refuse bins.Assists with the operation of a variety of equipment including pressure washers, free sprayers, paint trailer units and boom lifts to remove graffiti.JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:Common hand and power tools and equipment utilized in assigned area of responsibility.Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.Assigned department rules, regulations, and procedures.Basic custodial, equipment, building, or grounds maintenance practices.Safe driving principles and practices.Ability to:Perform light and heavy manual labor for extended periods and under adverse weather conditions.Read, write, and communicate in English at the level necessary to perform the job.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Complete daily reports and forms.Work on an assigned schedule or route and to work alone on assigned routine tasks.Safely operate light equipment and various hand tools.Work at heights not to exceed 35 feet and in confined spaces.Establish and maintain effective working relationships.Experience and Training Guidelines:Any combination equivalent to experience and
