TOWN OF VOLUNTOWN LABORER POSITION DEFINITION:Performs a variety of tasks related to construction and repair of facilities, and the maintenance of grounds, highways, equipment and facilities, requiring the operation of several types of vehicles and general labor work.GENERAL DUTIES:Operates motor vehicles such as light trucks, light snow plows, and power-driven rollers; operates compressors and chain saws; cleans gutters, sweeps streets, digs ditches, shovels materials such as sand, stone, etc., and spreads patching materials; assists with snow removal and sanding operations when required; acts as groundskeeper:rakes leaves, cuts grass, weeds, and brush by hand or with power equipment.General building maintenance.ADDITIONAL DUTIES:Performs related work as required.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the direction of a designated supervisor.QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:One (1) or more years general knowledge of labor practices with experience in driving trucks and/or motor vehicles and special motorized equipment.The ability to use laboring tools and motorized equipment.The ability to understand and follow oral instructions and to read and write English.The ability to interact with the general public and other employees.PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is a physically demanding job and the employee is frequently required to:stand; walk; bend; twist; stoop or crouch; sit; climb stairs to various levels; use hands, fingers, wrists for repetitive motion; drive; get in and out of vehicles; tolerate exposure to weather, domestic animals and environmental allergens; must maintain continuous visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.The noise level in the work environment is quiet to extremely loud depending on the task or equipment being used.Employee must be free from mental and physical disorders which would interfere with performance of duties as described.LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:Must possess valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle License.Note:These tasks and responsibilities are illustrative only and do not include every task or responsibility.Pay:From $24.00 per hour Benefits:On-the-job training Paid time off Retirement plan Work Location:In person.
