Job Description
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing employee payroll accurately and on time while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role manages payroll records, deductions, taxes, and benefits administration, and serves as a point of contact for payroll-related questions. Key Responsibilities Process weekly, biweekly, or monthly payroll for employees Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions Ensure compliance with payroll laws, tax regulations, and company policies Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee issues Manage direct deposits, garnishments, benefits deductions, and PTO tracking Coordinate with HR and Accounting departments regarding employee changes Generate payroll reports for management and audits Maintain the confidentiality of employee and company information Assist with year-end processes, including W-2s and other tax documentation Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred 2+ years of payroll processing experience preferred Knowledge of payroll software and HRIS systems Understanding of payroll regulations and tax requirements Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality Preferred Skills Experience with multi-state payroll processing Familiarity with Paycom, Paychex, QuickBooks, or similar payroll systems HomeCare HomeBase (EMR) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus Strong analytical and reconciliation skills Work Environment Office or hybrid work environment May require meeting strict payroll deadlines
