Overview We are seeking a Medical Aide to provide assistance with mid level nursing and therapy in both community and in-home settings. Candidates with an interest or background in rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or nursing are highly encouraged to apply. Therapy and nursing students will benefit from gaining immediate experience with an established, long-term spinal cord injury patient. This role is essential in facilitating ongoing rehabilitation processes and maintaining long-term patient well-being. The position entails providing specialized care to an individual who has had quadriplegia for over two decades. This includes, but is not limited to, transfer board procedures, hoyer lift use, assistance with catheterization, assistance with standing frame utilization, driving and accompanying to therapy and doctor's appointments, floor level mat therapies, range of motion exercise, and active assisted stretching. Secondary downtime tasks include help with cleaning and laundry. Duties Assist physical therapists with patient treatments and exercises, ensuring adherence to proper techniques. Assist with patient’s routine as it relates to of bowel managment, showering and dressing. Prepare treatment areas by sanitizing and organizing equipment, maintaining a safe and orderly environment. Assist patients with mobility and transfers, providing support as needed during therapy sessions. Assist with patient catheterization as needed. Document patient progress and report any changes or observations to the supervising therapist. Demonstrate proficiency in anatomy and medical terminology to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals. Collaborate with team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient service. Assist with basic wheelchair maintenance. Qualifications A foundational understanding of anatomy and medical terminology is preferred. Prior experience in patient care is advantageous. Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on patient service and empathy are required. Ability to work effectively in both in-home and community-based settings. A willingness to learn and adapt to established, individualized patient care plans. A commitment to providing high-quality support to patients throughout their rehabilitation journey.
