Description STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Manager or the registered pharmacist on duty and according to standard procedure, assists pharmacist in dispensing, ordering, and recordkeeping duties. May complete designated study module allowing for technician checker responsibilities. Responsible for patient billings. Casual position working as needed 0-5 variable hours working about every 6th weekend. Days of work are variable on weekdays, with variable hours typically from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm. Weekend and holiday work is as needed working typically 7 am - 3:30 pm. Looking for a certified tech to be available to work varying hours depending upon need. JOB FUNCTIONS Completes inpatient, outpatient, and swingbed billings. Types welfare billing forms when requested. Verifies patient account and billing information on a daily basis. Does patient account entry corrections when indicated. Works with billing department on patient account issues. Is familiar with j-coding billing and other corporate compliance issues. Maintains inventory including ordering, receiving, and restocking. Is responsible for keeping up-to-date on drug shortages and proper acquisition for hard to acquire items. Maintains proper coding and processing of all invoices. Picks up drugs from local pharmacies when needed. Charges drug entries for outside pharmacies when requested. Maintains ordering system computer database with current data. Maintains computer drug database entries in pharmacy software and Omnicell units. Maintain price and manufacturer changes in computer database. Organizes outdated or overstocked medications to ship back to manufacturers for credit. Prepares Omnicell restock orders. Prepares daily refills; delivers stat orders. Prepares IV admixtures, unit dose repackaging, compound products, and solutions. Completes floor stock storage area inspections. Rotates short-dated items during inspections in all areas. Maintains crash cart drug tray restocking. Replaces floor stock and fills/charges departmental stock requisitions. Maintains specified pharmacy computer databases and reports. (ie floor stock lists, latex lists) Disseminates updated lists to nursing units when requested. Completes Omnicell cycle counts and investigates Omnicell transactions as needed. Maintains the department in a neat, clean, and orderly manner. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Maintains and completes month-end tallies and quality assurance assignments as requested by pharmacy manager. Checks and maintain temperature monitoring on a daily basis. Performs Tech-check-Tech duties when certified. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION: (PHARMACY TECH II) PREPARATION AND TRAINING - High school level of education preferred. Graduate of Pharmacy Tech school or technician certification through previous correspondence study. Registered as a pharmacy tech with ND Board of Pharmacy. Position requires completion of BLS CPR. Position is required to attend Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training in the appropriate timeframe according to department orientation checklist. WORK EXPERIENCE - Bookkeeping training or health care experience desirable. ATTENDANCE - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employee are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. ANALYTICAL ABILITY - Math proficiency needed. INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT - Work within guidelines. CONTACTS WITH OTHERS - Must maintain good relations within department, Business Office, Material Services, Nursing Service, and other departments as deemed necessary. SUPERVISING THE WORK OF OTHERS - Responsible for own work with few exceptions. May complete Tech-check-Tech Module which allows for technician verification of designated medications. May be assigned supervisory roles over pharmacy technician students. RESPONSIBILITY FOR WELFARE OF OTHERS - Minimal. MENTAL/VISUAL EFFORT - Work requires constant attention to detail for accuracy. Must be able to speak and write the English language understandably. Visual acuity necessary. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. WORKING CONDITIONS - Subject to frequent interruptions. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials. Day shift including weekends and holidays. Participates in and complies with JRMC safety management program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Practices aseptic technique wherever appropriate. OSHA job class cate
