532136 Palmer, Alaska, United States, 99645 On Campus Staff Full-time Grade 81 UAA Matanuska Susitna College Opportunities start here is more than a slogan at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Matanuska Susitna College (Mat-Su College); it is our mission.Our aim is to transform student aspirations into realities.Mat-Su College, an extended campus of UAA, is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Physical Plant Coordinator.This position is responsible for the facilities, grounds, infrastructure, campus fleet vehicles, and equipment for Mat-Su College.This position is charged with continuing a high quality of general operation and maintenance of campus buildings and property, to include grounds, water systems, septic systems, heating/ventilation equipment, electrical, air-conditioning systems, plumbing, interior walls and flooring, lighting, elevators, and emergency generators.This position supervises physical plant employees, who are members of the Local 6070 union, oversees a janitorial contract, and works with other vendors.This position is charged with providing expert-quality repair services for smaller projects and emergency repairs, and also recommending and coordinating major repairs of buildings with the Director of Administrative Services and UAA Facilities Planning & Construction (FP&C).This position has budget authority and manages the budgets for physical plant operations and maintenance.This position is the first point of contact regarding conditions of the campus during inclement weather or other emergency situations.This position also fulfills compliance-related tasks, assists with loss prevention, and serves on Mat-Su College's Incident Management Team.As a member of Mat-Su College's executive team, this position participates in setting direction and advocating for Matanuska Susitna College, promoting the college as an active participant in the area's economic development and a principal contributor to the quality of life in the community.To thrive in this role, the successful candidate should possess the ability to direct a complex unit involving multiple operations and projects, manage critical systems and functions, and interpret and apply rules and regulations related to facility services operations.Knowledge of industry trades including architecture, building plans, carpentry, construction, electrical, engineering, hazardous materials, horticulture, HVAC, fleet/equipment, landscaping, logistics, mechanical, operations, painting, plumbing, power generation, refrigeration, security, thermodynamics and their applicable codes and knowledge of general sanitation and cleaning codes as they apply to custodial equipment and practices is essential for this position.The ability to lead, supervise, and manage employees is critical for this position.Working knowledge of risk management and mitigation principles, knowledge of blood-borne pathogens, hazardous materials handling, ADA, DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations and codes is necessary for this position.The ability to develop and provide sound recommendations to administration, make complex decisions, interpret and apply contracts and collective bargaining agreements, and manage budgets is required for this position.The applicant should possess strong project management skills, planning and problem-solving abilities, and organization, communication, tact, and customer service skills.It is preferred that the applicant have 15 years of relevant experience.Minimum Qualifications:To be considered for this position, applicants must have a combined ten years of progressively responsible supervisory and work experience in relevant trade(s) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.This position requires a current, valid driver's license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.Position Details:This position is located on the Matanuska-Susitna College campus in Palmer, Alaska.This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.A short presentation delivered to the campus body, followed by a Q&A session, will be part of the final interview process.Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until a successful candidate is identified.Submission of an application does not guarantee review or a job offer.To view the full list of job responsibilities, please click HERE.The University of Alaska (UA) reserves the right to require employees to work on-site at the UA facilities.Hybrid and remote work may be approved for employees based in Alaska at the University's discretion.Remote work for employee
