Job Description
Hebrew SeniorLife, a nonprofit organization based in Boston, MA and affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is seeking a compassionate, skilled Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our per diem rehab team within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to deliver high-quality rehabilitative care to older adults across our continuum of services. You will support treatment plans designed to improve mobility, function, and quality of life, helping seniors maintain independence and wellbeing in a respectful, inclusive environment that values expert care and wellness. As a Physical Therapist Assistant Per Diem, you will implement individual treatment programs, guide patients through therapeutic exercises and functional activities, and provide safe, hands-on support with gait training, balance activities, and transfer techniques. You will carefully monitor patients’ responses to treatment, adjust activities within the plan of care as directed, and promptly communicate changes in status, progress, or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist and interdisciplinary care team. You will perform timely, accurate documentation of all treatment sessions, patient responses, education provided, and functional outcomes in the electronic medical record in accordance with state regulations, organizational policies, and professional standards of practice. You will collaborate closely with nursing, physicians, social work, and other rehabilitation disciplines to coordinate care, contribute to care planning, and support discharge readiness and safe transitions across settings. This position is ideal for a PTA who enjoys working with geriatric populations and values relationship-based care. You will provide education and support to patients and their families or caregivers regarding home exercises, safety strategies, use of assistive devices, and techniques that promote functional independence. You will demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for the diverse backgrounds and preferences of the seniors and families we serve. As a per diem team member at Hebrew SeniorLife, you will have the flexibility to accept shifts based on operational needs, which may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays. You will be expected to manage your schedule reliably, arrive prepared for each assignment, and adapt to different units or care environments while maintaining consistent, evidence-based practice. You will uphold infection control, safety, and regulatory standards and contribute to a clean, organized, and therapeutic treatment environment. Hebrew SeniorLife fosters a collaborative atmosphere focused on innovative senior care, continuous learning, and professional growth. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced therapists, participate in in-services and training opportunities when available, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes. You will embody our mission to enrich the lives of seniors through compassionate care, clinical excellence, and a strong commitment to dignity and respect at every interaction.
