Job Description
Hebrew SeniorLife, a nonprofit organization based in Boston, MA and affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Physical Therapy Assistant for a per diem role in our long-term care setting. In this role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide high-quality, evidence-based rehabilitative care to older adults, helping them maintain and improve mobility, function, and quality of life. As a Physical Therapy Assistant at Hebrew SeniorLife, you will carry out individualized treatment programs designed by the Physical Therapist, including therapeutic exercises, balance and gait training, functional mobility training, and the use of assistive devices. You will observe and document patients’ responses to treatment, communicate changes in condition or progress to the Physical Therapist and interdisciplinary team, and make recommendations within your scope of practice to optimize outcomes. You will assist with patient and family education on safe mobility strategies, fall prevention, use of equipment, and home exercise programs when appropriate. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team that may include physicians, nurses, occupational and speech therapists, social workers, and other care staff to support a holistic care plan for each resident. Duties include accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, participation in care conferences as requested, and adherence to facility, state, and federal regulations and professional standards of practice. You will help maintain a safe treatment environment, including proper equipment use, infection control practices, and attention to patient comfort and dignity. This per diem position offers flexible scheduling based on departmental needs and your availability, which may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays. As part of Hebrew SeniorLife’s mission-driven culture, you will practice in an inclusive, respectful environment that prioritizes the wellbeing of seniors and supports staff with collaboration, continuous learning, and opportunities for professional growth. You will be expected to demonstrate effective communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a strong commitment to person-centered, age-friendly care. Qualified candidates will have completed an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program, hold an active Massachusetts PTA license, and possess current BLS/CPR certification. Prior experience working with older adults in long-term care, skilled nursing, or inpatient rehabilitation is strongly preferred. Strong clinical reasoning within PTA scope, proficiency with safe patient handling and transfers, and basic competency with electronic documentation are essential. This position is ideal for a PTA who is passionate about geriatrics, values teamwork, and is looking for a meaningful per diem opportunity in a leading senior care organization.
