Job Description
PLATE MAKER FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Pre-Press Manager Last Update: 5/8/2026 Job Summary: As a plate maker at CP Direct, you will be responsible for the precise preparation and production of printing plates used in various printing processes. Your attention to detail and expertise in plate making will ensure that our printed materials consistently meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Prepare printing plates according to job specifications, selecting appropriate plate materials and sizes. Operate plate imaging equipment to accurately transfer digital designs onto printing plates. Perform thorough quality control checks on plates and jobs to ensure image clarity and accuracy, adjusting as necessary to maintain high print quality. Learn and recognize all specific press marks as part of the quality control process. Maintain and clean plate-making equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Coordinate with the production team to manage plate production schedules and prioritize tasks based on production requirements. Troubleshooting issues related to plate production, such as equipment malfunctions or image distortion, and implementing corrective measures as needed. Maintain detailed records of plate production activities, including plate specifications, job numbers, and any adjustments made during the process. Required Skills/Abilities: Previous experience in plate making or a similar role within the printing industry is preferred. Proficiency in operating plate imaging equipment and related software. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced production environment. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively. Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members. Physical ability to lift and move heavy plates and equipment as needed (must be able to lift at least 30 to 40 lbs). Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional technical training or certification in plate making or printing technology is a plus. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 30 to 40 lbs. Prolonged periods of standing and operating the baked plate line, with minimal time spent sitting.
