Job description Full-Time Police Recruit Weatherby Lake Police Department City Hall Position Title:Police Recruit (Full-Time) Department:Weatherby Lake Police Department Division:Police Academy Training Classification:Entry-Level FLSA Status:Non-Exempt Reports To:Weatherby Lake Sergeant & Police Academy Commander Posting Date:April 17, 2026 Application Deadline:Ongoing until filled Anticipated Start Date:August 2026 (Pending Academy Enrollment) POSITION SUMMARY The Weatherby Lake Police Department is seeking motivated, dedicated, and community-minded individuals to join our team as full-time Police Recruits.Selected candidates will undergo comprehensive training at the Police Academy before transitioning into sworn officer roles within the department.This is a unique opportunity to begin a rewarding career in public service while making a meaningful difference in the safety and well-being of our community.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Recruit (Academy Phase) $ TBD Upon Graduation (Probationary Officer) $ TBD Additional benefits include:Comprehensive health and dental insurance for employees (City pays 90% of these premiums) and eligible dependents (City pays $250.00 a month toward dependents' premiums) Defined-benefit 457 plan with contributions from both employee (up to 7% per pay period) and employer (up to 5% per pay period) Paid vacation, sick leave, 13 federal holidays, and 2 personal days per year Life insurance (City pays 100% of this premium for the employee) and long-term disability coverage AFLAC Supplement Insurance is offered, but employees pays 100% Department-issued uniforms, equipment, and firearms Paid overtime opportunities in accordance with FLSA guidelines DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES During the Academy Phase, recruits will be expected to:Complete all required coursework, physical training, and evaluations at the Police Academy Demonstrate proficiency in firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and first aid Adhere strictly to department policies, codes of conduct, and Chain of Command Maintain satisfactory academic progress and pass all assessments Upon Graduation and Field Training, officers will be responsible for:Patrolling the assigned community and responding to calls for service in a timely manner Conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and preparing accurate written reports Enforcing local, state, and federal laws while upholding the constitutional rights of all citizens Building positive relationships with community members through proactive engagement Collaborating with fellow officers, supervisors, and other public safety agencies Testifying in court proceedings as required Performing all other duties as assigned by the chain of command MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment U.S.citizen High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college credit preferred Valid driver's license with a clean driving record No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including reference and credit checks Must successfully complete a drug screening Must meet minimum physical fitness standards for Academy enrollment PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field Bilingual or multilingual abilities, particularly Spanish, are a plus Prior military service with honorable discharge Previous experience in public safety, security, or community service roles CPR/AED and First Aid certification SELECTION PROCESS Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will proceed through the following multi-stage process:1.Complete and submit the application Make sure all required material is included, as well as up-to-date contact information 2.Interview Panel interview evaluating communication, problem-solving, and values 3.Background Investigation Thorough review of criminal history, employment, finances, and references 4.Polygraph Examination Verification of information provided during the application process 5.Chief's Review & Offer Final review by the Police Chief before a conditional employment offer 6.Police Academy Fitness Test Be prepared to pass a timed run, push-ups, sit-ups, and possibly additional physical assessments.7.Entrance into the Police Academy Successful completion of all of the above, followed by admittance into the Police Academy HOW TO APPLY Please submit a complete application package.Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.Applications may be submitted by email to the City Clerk Audrey Casas at ACASAS@cityofweatherbylake-mo.gov, or to Police Chief Tammy Floyd at tfloyd@cityofweatherbylake-mo.gov, or by mail or in person at the Weatherby Lake City Hall.Required Application Materials:Completed City Employment Application form Cover letter describing motivation for pursuing a law enforcement career Current resume Copies of educational certification
