Requirements ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures the effective delivery of competent care to assigned patients. Reviews and implements all physician orders. Administers medications in accordance with Center standards and federal and state regulations for medication administration., documenting the administration of medications as appropriate according to policy. Verifies patient identity and procedure to be performed, communicating any discrepancies to the attending physician and Clinical Director. Completes all documentation related to the patient’s pre-operative and/or post-recovery care. Notifies medical staff of changes in the patient's status. Performs duties and assumes responsibility for care of assigned patients in the area as designated (i.e. pre-operative or post-recovery areas). At all times maintains patient’s privacy and confidentiality of information and medical records. Provides the patient with detailed discharge instructions prior to discharge from the facility. Provides patient education and assesses the patient's understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teaching. Maintains standards of pre-operative and post-recovery nursing with regards to infection control management, patient safety, appropriateness of care. Supervises licensed practical nurse, as appropriate. Uses established discharge criteria to assess the patient’s recovery and readiness for discharge communicating information to the attending physician and anesthesia provider. Ensures the attending physician completes discharge assessment prior to patient leaving the facility. Complies with all facility, policies and procedures, programs and plans for continued compliance with CMS certification, AAAHC accreditation, and state requirements. Participates in training and education as designated, including initial orientation, ongoing competency assessment and related mandatory educational topics. Assists in orientation of new staff members. Works with Clinical Director and physicians to maintain and improve efficient patient flow. Participates in the orientation of new staff members, when appropriate. Assists in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Maintains open communication to ensure appropriate relay of pertinent clinical information. Maintains clinical competency in professional nursing practice. Participates, as assigned, as a member of various committees. Actively participates with quality improvement, infection control and patient safety initiatives. Fosters a customer-focused environment for patients, visitors, and members of the health care team Responds to emergencies within the clinical area appropriately and throughout the Center as applicable. Consistently adheres to OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines; applies standard precautions per Center standards as observed Accurately completes incident reports within the shift of occurrence and immediately communicates critical incidents to the management team. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has supervisory responsibilities for the following staff: Non-nursing clinical staff MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completed a course of study at an accredited School of Nursing. Current unrestricted license to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse. BLS and ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. Maintain clinical competency in professional nursing practice. Meets all continuing education requirements as required for licensure renewal on a 2-year cycle. Familiarity with personal computer and ancillary equipment, telephone, electronic health record system and requirements for documentation, copier, and fax. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical procedure, and nursing processes related to circulating duties. Knowledgeable of documentation requirement of the Center’s electronic health record. Ability
