TITLE: Preschool Lead Teacher (Two-year-olds) REPORTS TO: Director of Preschool & Head of School DEPARTMENT: Preschool STATUS: 10-month, exempt position; Academic Calendar: August-May HOURS: School year hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm ** opportunities to earn additional pay through after-school and summer camp programs. ABOUT US: Atlanta Academy is an independent Preschool–8th grade school serving students in North Fulton. Our Preschool is NAEYC accredited, and Atlanta Academy is proud to be a 2017 and 2024 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award winner. Located in Roswell, GA, we are seeking a dynamic Lead Preschool Teacher to join our team. PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Lead Teacher will create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for two-year-old children. This educator will plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum, support social-emotional development, and foster curiosity, independence, and early learning skills through play-based experiences. RELATIONSHIPS: We are looking for someone who is not only an educator, but also a partner with the families of our school community, and a caring presence in the lives of young children during one of the most important stages of development. This position will work closely with the administrative team, faculty, parents and students to accomplish the essential duties and responsibilities noted below. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with Georgia’s Early Learning Development Standards Create a nurturing, consistent, and structured classroom environment Support toddlers’ social-emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development Observe and document student progress and development Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding classroom experiences and child growth Collaborate with assistant teachers and the administration team Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom in compliance with licensing standards Support positive behavior guidance using developmentally appropriate strategies Comply with state licensing standards and the National Association of Education of Young Children’s standards (NAEYC) QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred (or equivalent experience) Experience working with children ages 2–3 in a classroom setting Strong understanding of early childhood development and best practices Excellent oral and written communication and teamwork skills Passion for working with young children and families Ability to create a warm, patient, and responsive classroom environment Ability to work as a team with a diverse group of individuals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. Organizational and time management skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Consistently able to observe and respond to children’s needs, emergencies, and/or conflicts that might occur in the classroom, on the playground, and/or in common areas. Consistently able to supervise up to six children alone without supervision or support. Consistently able to supervise children outside while exposed to the sun, rain, and/or weather and temperature changes. Consistently able to lift children up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist height. Consistently able to carry child up to 50 lbs. for up to 100 feet. Consistently able to kneel or crouch down to maintain eye contact at child’s level. Consistently able to sit on the floor to work with children and to reach high enough to make contact with children on all playground equipment. Consistently able to react to a child that is 20-30 feet away within 30 seconds. Consistently able to deal effectively with the stress involved in working closely with children, parents, coworkers, and administration.
