Nature of Work Press Secretary – Office of the Governor The Office of the Governor is seeking a skilled and motivated Press Secretary to join a fast-paced communications team focused on advancing a pro-growth, results-driven agenda for the State of West Virginia. This role is ideal for a strong writer who thrives under pressure, understands the modern media environment, and is eager to help educate the public around key policy issues facing West Virginia. Key Responsibilities Draft high-impact written materials including press releases, public statements, op-eds, and talking points Assist in developing and executing communications plans on targeted policy issues facing West Virginia Respond to media inquiries and support press outreach efforts Travel regularly with the communications team to support media engagement across the state Collaborate with state agencies and stakeholders to support efforts to educate the public about state government activities Support digital and social media efforts, including drafting content and amplifying key initiatives Qualifications Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively Experience in communications, journalism, or public affairs Understanding of media relations and the policy landscape Experience with digital communications and social media platforms Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Willingness to travel frequently throughout West Virginia Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Preferred Experience working in government or for an elected official Familiarity with West Virginia media outlets and political environment About the Role This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in advancing the Governor’s policy agenda and communicating directly with the people of West Virginia.
