Job Description
New London Hospital (NLH) in collaboration with Newport Health Center (NHC) is seeking an experienced board certified/board eligible Family Practice Physician to join our Primary Care practice as Medical Director. In addition to providing primary care services to a panel of patients, this physician will serve as the Medical Director of the Rural Health Clinic (RHC). The physician will report to the NLH Chief Medical Officer.The candidate will be fully supported by experienced leadership, nurses, medical assistants and care coordinators to provide team-based care that is grounded by evidence-based best practices. This practice provides comprehensive care and is deeply rooted in the local community.This is a full-time position that includes clinical time and protected time to perform the duties as the Newport Health Center (NHC) Rural Health Center (RHC) site Medical Director. Besides normal clinical duties this role will be responsible for NHC clinical leadership and oversight of providers in collaboration with the NHC clinic leadership team to ensure high quality patient care, fiscal viability, patient satisfaction, employee engagement and regulatory expectations.QualificationsMinimum of four (4) years of clinical practice required, experience at a RHC or FQHC preferredDemonstrated leadership experience that focuses on people development, specifically training and developing clinical staff and colleaguesHighly motivated, flexible and adaptable to working in a team-based environmentSolid interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and build positive relationships with colleaguesAbility to positively interact with other clinicians, management and all levels of medical and non-medical professionalsDemonstrated competence in the use of electronic health records as will as associated technology and applications.Board certification or eligible in Family Medicine requiredMust obtain and maintain a medical license in the State of New HampshireResponsibilitiesOverall ObjectivesServes as direct report for all NHC providers - physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs)Serves as a liaison between the NHC group and the New London Medical Group (NLMG) primary care team as well as with hospital administration;Collaborates with medical staff committees and individuals to optimize communication, efficiency and effectiveness of clinic services;Ensures that relationships with colleagues at the site and throughout the organization are collegial and align with NLH and DH values;Ensures that interactions with patients are effective and produce the best possible outcome;Collaborates with the NHC leadership team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.Collaborates with the NLMG primary care medical director to assure consistency of processes and expected clinical outcomes between the two NLH primary care site.Represents NLH/NHC at various Dartmouth Health (DH) quality or primary care meetings as determined by the Chief Medical Officer and the Senior Director of Ambulatory Services.Performance ExpectationsClinical Leadership and Oversight of ProvidersEnsures compliance with all of the NLH policies and procedures.Ensures that all providers are aware of, and are in compliance with, NLH Medical Staff bylaws and Rules and Regulations.Performs regular check-ins with employed providers and documents as required per NLH human resources requirements.Supports employee engagement initiatives at NHC.Reviews and approves the medical record-keeping practices of NHC providers, and insures it is in compliance with NLH policies as well as State and Federal regulations.Maintains provider staffing schedules so that adequate coverage is ensured and patients are seen on a timely basis.Participates in the recruitment and selection of providers and coordinates their orientation and integration into NHC and NLH as a whole.Manages/resolves conflicts among providers at NHC, and between providers and other team members, groups and individuals.Provides mentoring for the professional growth and development of providers at NHC.Ensures that department providers attend mandatory training and education programs as determined by NLHUses demonstrated leadership skills to communicate, collaborate, educate and build consensus among NHC RHC teams.Clinical QualityResponsible for oversight of Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities in collaboration with the Medical Director of Ambulatory Quality. This includes any activities required for acquiring and maintaining Critical Access Hospital, Rural Health Center and Provider-Based Billing designations.Performs the duties as Medical Director of the RHC as outlined in "CMS Appendix G - Guidance for Surveyors: Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) Medical Director Responsibilities".Champions the NLH/NHC ambulatory quality initiatives and performance and liaisons with Medical Director of Ambulatory Quality, NLH and DH providers and teams in identifying opportunities for improvement.Attends month
