PRIMARY FUNCTION Directs and coordinates educational, administrative, and counseling activities of secondary school by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of a Master’s degree and have or be eligible for a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement as Principal and a minimum of five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience. Ability to utilize technology for instruction, data and analysis, and administrative purposes. Strong knowledge and understanding of curriculum and instruction for grades 6-8. Demonstrated successful administrative/supervisory work experience, instructional and general leadership ability and personal characteristics necessary for working with staff, parents and community. Strong organizational, management, and leadership skills. Alternative qualifications as the Superintendent and School Board may find appropriate and acceptable. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Develops and evaluates educational programs to ensure conformance to federal, state and school board standards) and Standards of Learning. Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, review of teachers' activities, and issuance of directives. Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school. Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations, and other schools to coordinate educational services. Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed. Directs preparation of class schedules, cumulative records, and attendance reports. Ensures school building and property safety and security. Plans and monitors school budget. Plans and directs building maintenance. Assist in the development and administration of educational programs for students with mental or physical disabilities Works with school staff and community to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and appropriate student behavior. Advises the central personnel office of staff needs, participates in the recruitment, employment, assignment, promotion, transfer, non-renewal, and dismissal of certificated and classified personnel. Develops and administers a school budget, utilizing all available funds. Supervises the maintenance of accurate bookkeeping and accounting of school funds. Supervises and evaluates the performance of each member of the school staff and establishes individual programs for improvement consistent with the division's staff development program. Communicates and interprets Division policies, procedures and regulations. Utilizes school improvement teams to set objectives and evaluate programs. Develops and evaluates an annual school plan, assuring its coordination with Division goals. Coordinates and maintains accreditation in accordance with the State of Virginia. Establishes and maintains an effective school climate. Coordinates staff activities to reach consensus on how decisions at the school will be made. Provides feedback and support to teachers and other staff members on personal and professional needs. Resolves concerns on a timely basis. Establishes an effective communications program which includes opportunities for staff involvement, committees, individual conferences, internal communication procedures. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS Frequent walking, stooping, standing, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, and members of the community is required. EVALUATION Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel. TERMS OF CONTRACT 12 Month – 250 Days – 8.5 Hours per Day Reports to Superintendent Salary Commensurate with Experience
