Job Description
Position Summary The Produce Clerk is responsible for stocking, rotating, organizing, preparing, and maintaining fresh produce displays while ensuring the department remains clean, fully stocked, and customer-ready at all times. This position includes preparing fresh cut fruit and packaged produce items while maintaining quality, freshness, and food safety standards. The Produce Clerk must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, stay on task, and complete daily department checklists efficiently. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Stock and rotate fresh produce displays throughout the department Inspect produce for freshness, quality, and damage and remove unsellable product promptly Prepare and package fresh cut fruit and other ready-to-sell produce items following food safety procedures Maintain attractive, clean, and organized displays at all times Restock wet rack, tables, refrigerated cases, and other produce displays throughout the shift Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation methods to maintain freshness and reduce shrink Assist with unloading trucks and processing incoming produce deliveries Ensure perishable items are stored properly and safely according to food safety guidelines Organize backstock and maintain clean coolers and storage areas Complete go-backs and return misplaced merchandise to the proper location Perform price checks for customers and team members when requested Answer department phone calls and assist customers with questions, product availability, and requests Assist customers with locating items and provide friendly, courteous customer service Assist in building and maintaining seasonal and promotional displays Complete daily department checklists accurately and efficiently Maintain productivity and stay on task in a fast-paced work environment Keep work areas, prep areas, coolers, and sales floor clean and organized Use proper safety procedures while lifting, stocking, operating equipment, and identifying hazards Operate pallet jacks, balers, and forklifts safely after training and certification Be willing to work in other departments or assist with coverage when needed Assist with any additional duties, projects, or tasks as requested by management Support other departments and special projects as assigned QualificationsRequired: Must be 18 years of age or older Ability to operate pallet jacks, balers, and forklifts safely (training and certification provided) Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division Ability to read and write in English Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while staying organized and focused Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently or as part of a team Stable work history preferred Ability to identify quality issues, damaged product, and unsafe conditions Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, and reach for extended periods of time Ability to move stocking carts, pallet jacks, and heavy product safely Ability to work in varying temperatures including coolers and refrigerated areas Ability to climb ladders and safely stock overhead product when necessary Ability to safely handle knives, cutting tools, wet surfaces, and food preparation equipment Ability to handle wet, cold, crushable, glass, plastic, and boxed products safely Work Schedule Flexible schedule required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays Expectations Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance Treat customers and team members with respect Work efficiently while maintaining quality and department standards Follow all Red X policies, procedures, food safety, and sanitation guidelines Maintain a clean, safe, and customer-focused shopping environment Follow direction from supervisors and management while contributing to overall team success Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $16.00 per hour Benefits Employee discount Paid time off Work Location: In person
