Job Description
About The Position The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office is seeking a current employee to join their team as a Program Coordinator working as part of a Compliance Unit to ensure compliance with varying and numerous statutes governing corrections, correctional health care, and re-entry services. The Program Coordinator would work in tandem and cross-train with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) coordinator and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) manager, reporting to the Sheriff’s Chief Medical Officer and in-turn directly to the Sheriff to ensure direct communication in resolving any potential issues. The position will work closely with Custody leadership in developing practices and would be assigned within the county jail. Ensuring compliance requires creating, modifying, and implementing policies and procedures, implementation of staff training, management of confidential and public records, monitoring trends in legislation and current litigation, auditing work, and functioning as a liaison with County Counsel on legal issues involving the Sheriff’s Office. A comprehensive understanding, or proven ability to gain understanding, of legal standards, legislation, and litigation as it pertains to a Correctional environment is valuable. The Ideal Candidate Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Required A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: A: Possession of an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university. In addition, one year of experience assisting in financial, budgetary, coordination, communication, service delivery, or program operations; or B: One year of experience performing work equivalent to a Supervising Administrative Assistant; or C: Three years of experience performing clerical work equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III. Licenses And Certificates Certain positions within this classification may require driving. Positions that require driving as an essential job function will be communicated in the job posting. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid California driver’s license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
