Job Description

Position Summary Whitworth University invites applications for the Program Director of the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) master’s program, an established and highly regarded COAMFTE-accredited program. Core Responsibilities Curriculum, Teaching & Clinical Training | 50% Oversees curriculum development, maintenance, and continuous improvement. Teaches graduate MFT and related graduate courses as needed. Provides university clinical supervision for practicum and internship students. Coordinates advising and scheduling courses with the GSE Advisor/Assistant Director. Program Leadership, Strategy & Administration | 30% Leads MFT program development, recruitment, oversight, and continuous improvement. Assesses program effectiveness and identifies enhancement opportunities. Oversees and manages the MFT program budget. Represents the program at state and national meetings as needed. Provides supervision and oversight for administrative staff, graduate assistants, and student workers. Supports faculty effectiveness, professional growth, and program alignment. Accreditation, Assessment & Compliance | 10% Ensures compliance with COAMFTE accreditation standards. Leads development, implementation, and oversight of the MFT assessment plan. Monitors outcomes and ensures alignment with accreditation and institutional requirements. Institutional Service, Governance & Professional Engagement | 10% Serves on the MFT admissions committee, counseling team, GSE Leadership Team, and other university committees. Participates in university governance and professional development activities. Engages in scholarly, professional, research, supervision, and clinical practice activities. Supports marketing and outreach for MFT programs, services, and events. Other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications and Core Competencies Doctoral or terminal degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a closely related discipline Licensed or license-eligible as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Washington state AAMFT Clinical Fellow and/or Approved Supervisor status Five or more years of clinical practice experience Commitment to Christian faith and willingness to integrate faith into professional and academic work Demonstrated leadership capability in academic, clinical, or program settings Evidence of cultural humility and capacity to work effectively across different identities and experiences Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Preferred Degree from a COAMFTE-accredited MFT program Graduate-level teaching and/or supervision experience Experience with accreditation, assessment, or academic program leadership Whitworth welcomes candidates who bring non-traditional career paths, interdisciplinary experience, or emerging leadership profiles consistent with the responsibilities of the role. Other Details Start Date: August 1, 2026 FTE: 1.0 (12-month appointment) Salary Range: $110,000–$120,000 (commensurate with experience) Employment Category: Administrative Faculty (non-tenure track, no return rights) Courtesy Rank: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (depending on experience) Whitworth University is a Christian liberal arts university.
