Join the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (H.A.R.D.) as a Program Instructor to support our Jr. Giants Baseball League and help lead fun, engaging, and meaningful recreational experiences! About the Role: H.A.R.D. is offering a introductory baseball program through our partnership with the San Francisco Giants. Participants will learn fundamentals, practice skills and play games. We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable Program Instructors to help facilitate, coach, and coordinate these activities. As a Program Instructor, your primary responsibilities will include: Leading and supporting baseball programs and activities Providing excellent customer service to participants, parents, and caregivers Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all Working collaboratively with fellow staff and supervisors Assisting with setup, cleanup, and daily operations as needed The Ideal Candidate: You have experience working or playing in sports or recreation, enjoy working with youth, and are a dependable team player ready to jump in wherever needed. Enthusiasm, communication skills, and a positive attitude are key. Position Details: Title: Program Instructor – Jr. Giants Baseball League Available Positions: 6 Hourly Rate: $21.61– $29.17 Work Schedule: Tuesdays &Thursdays (4:00PM - 8:00PM), Saturdays (8:00AM - 4:00PM) Typical Hours: Up to 18 hours per week Employment Type: Part-time, Year-round Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt Work Locations: Primarily at Tennyon Park, but also various locations within the District as needed Anticipated Start Date: ASAP Maximum Annual Hours: 960 hours per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator II, the Youth Sports Instructor will provide instruction to students 4 to 17 years of age at various indoor and outdoor locations throughout the District. This position will require you to work mornings evenings and weekends. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents in this class are primarily responsible for performing basic instructor duties but may also perform general duties to assist with youth sport operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Incumbents may not perform all duties. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Conduct sports programming for youth ages 4 to 17 years of age Ensure safety and proper technique of participants while in the program Follow an age appropriate sports curriculum for participants Encourage skill development and self-confidence through progression of skills Provide a high level of customer service to parents and participants Exercise precautions necessary to ensure the safety of participants Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers Attends job specific trainings Performs other duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. The functions of this position are performed in indoors in a gymnasium location as part of a team and at various parks outdoors. The setting includes various weather conditions, including heat and sunshine. Incumbents must wear an appropriate uniform with identification and protective equipment. Specialized aspects of the work environment may also include high noise levels, working with participants who are using potentially dangerous
